Our optometrists at Vision Works are highly trained to help determine the best contact lens solutions for your vision, including severe cases of astigmatism.
What happens during a contact lens examination?
During your contact lens exam, the optometrist will evaluate your overall eye health and check your vision. In addition, they may use advanced corneal topography testing to determine the shape of your cornea so your prescribed contact lenses fit comfortably on your cornea.
What types of contact lenses are there?
The best type of contact lens for you depends on your eye health, lifestyle, and vision. Therefore, an optometrist needs to evaluate your overall eye health before prescribing one of these contact lens options:
Soft Contact Lenses
Soft contact lenses are made of soft, flexible plastic that allows oxygen to easily pass through your cornea and are extremely common. Depending on what works for you, you can opt for daily, weekly, or monthly disposable soft contact lenses.
Gas Permeable Contact Lenses
Gas permeable contact lenses are a more durable type of contact lens that resists protein deposit build-up. These long-lasting lenses are often ideal for eye conditions like keratoconus or giant papillary conjunctivitis (GPC).
Extended Wear Contacts
If your eyes are generally healthy, you may prefer extended-wear contacts. These lenses allow you to wear your contacts continuously or overnight for multiple days or weeks at a time.
Specialised Contacts
Speciality contacts are lenses designed for patients with corneal conditions or other eye issues.
